advantages and disadvantages of hospital information systems in teaching hospitals of urmia university of medical sciences     jebraeily m [1] *, raheimi b [2] , zareh z [3] , dolani a [4]     received: 18feb, 2012 accepted: 22may, 2012     abstract   background & aims : the critical requirement of healthcare services on information and also disabilities of paper chart to meet these serious needs has been caused to increase trend to use of the hospital information systems (his). the goal of this research is to determine advantages and disadvantages of his.   materials & methods : this descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2011.the study sample selected by multistage cluster sampling method andconsisted of 160 his users from teaching hospitals ofurmia university of medical sciences. data collected by using a self-structured questionnaire that reliability of which had been measured by specialists and validity evaluated by internal consistency method. collected data analyzed by spss software descriptive statistics and analytical statistics (t-test and chi-square).   result : maximum mean of scale in advantage of his related to the promotion of healthcare quality (4/55 from 5) and better accessibility to accuracy information (4/42 from 5).maximum mean of scale in disadvantage of his related to the new skills acquisition (3/82 from 5) and high costly (3/48 from 5).   conclusion: the results of the present study demonstrate that, for building a successful hospital information system, users must be acquired sufficient training to increase their skills and knowledge in order to utilize of that system and an appropriately support should also be organized to maintain and promotion of system.   key words: his implementation, advantage, disadvantage, end users, urmia university of medical sciences     address: faculty of paramedical medical sciences, urmia, tel: (+98) 9149400138   email: [email protected]   [1] instructor, facultyof health informationtechnologydepartmenturmiauniversityof medical sciences (corresponding author)  [2] assistant professor, faculty of health information technology departmenturmia university of medical sciences  [3] instructor, faculty of health information technology departmenturmia university of medical sciences  [4] master of library and information site for medical sciencesurmia university library
